Signals

Find companies whose teams shrank, when saving time matters most

Coolie's Headcount Decrease signal finds companies whose number of employees fell by at least the share you set over the last six months. Fewer people doing the same work is when tools that save time, automate a task or replace an outside service get a hearing. Coolie keeps the companies that fit your ideal customer profile, finds up to three decision makers at each and scores each lead; for the leads you pick, it writes a research brief and a personalized email and LinkedIn sequence.

How the Headcount Decrease signal works

  1. Set the drop

A minimum, a tenth by default, and a maximum if you want one.

  2. Coolie compares six months

It finds the companies whose headcount fell by that much over the last six months, across the whole company.

  3. It keeps the companies that fit your ICP

Your ideal customer profile (industry, company size, location) filters the companies before anyone is contacted.

  4. It finds up to three decision makers

At each company, Coolie looks for up to three people whose job titles match your ICP, and gives each lead a score.

  5. It researches the leads you pick

For the leads you choose, Coolie writes a research brief (the company's news, the person, the reason to write now) and a personalized email and LinkedIn sequence.

  6. It writes and sends from your own accounts

Email and LinkedIn steps go out from your own mailbox and LinkedIn account, spread over your working hours. You approve each message, or let the agent run on autopilot.

Writing to a company that just shrank

  • Lead with the work that remains, not with the cuts.
  • Offer time back: automation, fewer manual steps, a service done for them.
  • Keep it short and specific: the team reading it has less time than before.

The other side

Headcount Growth finds the opposite: teams that grew. Both read the same six months, and you can run either or both.

Example (fictional)

You sell an accounts payable automation tool.

Coolie finds Harrow & Finch Distribution, 450 employees in the Netherlands, whose headcount fell over the last six months.

It finds its CFO and its Finance Operations Manager, scores both, and once you pick them drafts an email about closing the month with a smaller team.

Every company and person in this example is invented.

Frequently asked questions

Over what period is the drop measured?

The last six months.

Can I pick departments?

Not for this signal: it measures the whole company. Departments are a setting of Headcount Growth.

Does a smaller team mean the company will not buy?

Not necessarily. A smaller team doing the same work often looks for tools and services that save time. It depends on what you sell.

How much does it cost?

Coolie starts with a 7-day trial for $1; after it, the Starter plan is $123 a month. The pricing page lists what each plan includes and what credits pay for.
